Granite block crushes 2 children to death, injures a woman

Synopsis

One of the victims, 12-year-old Harish's family was visiting his 55-year-old grandmother N Murugammal in Nakkalpatty for Diwali. He was playing with his 6-year-old cousin. A trailer truck from Kuppam (Andhra Pradesh) headed to a granite factory, entered the street where the children were playing.

Two children were killed on the spot after a huge trailer truck got stuck in a pit near Burgur on Monday. Identified as 12-year-old Harish and his cousin, 6-year-old Kaviyarasu, the two children died on the spot as a granite slab slid from the truck and fell on them.

According to a report by the Times of India, Harish's family was visiting his 55-year-old grandmother N Murugammal in Nakkalpatty for Diwali. Both the children were playing outside the house and Murugammal's cousin, 50-year-old Chandra was watching over them. 

At the very same moment, a trailer truck from Kuppam (Andhra Pradesh) headed to a granite factory, entered the street where the children were playing. The back tyre of the truck got stuck in a pit, dug for Hogenakkal dedicated water scheme. Following this, the truck driver lost control of the vehicle and slid left. A granite slab slid out from the truck and fell on the children, killing them instantly. Chandra's leg was caught under the slab and was severely injured. 

Chandra was taken to the government hospital in Krishnagiri where the doctors recommended to take her to the Government Dharmapuri Medical College and Hospital.
