With just ten days to go before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gets started, last-minute preparations are underway in full swing. Meanwhile, the Olympic Village in the Japanese capital opened its doors for the athletes from Tuesday.
In what comes as inspiring news, the Olympic Village for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics has opened its doors for the athletes since Tuesday. It is expected to host more than 1,000 athletes while the Games run between July 23 to August 8, while the Village is situated at the Harumi waterfront district.
The International Olympic Committee has stated that about 85% of the athletes would be entirely vaccinated. Furthermore, all the athletes staying in the Village are entitled to follow the COVID-19 countermeasures set by the organisers, which includes wearing a mask, sanitising the hands, practising social distancing while getting tested regularly.

The amenities in the Village include a big 24/7 dining hall that is to have an option of 700 foods. It also has a fitness centre and the Clinic Complex to provide extensive medical care to female athletes. Meanwhile, in the residential department, the beds would be made of cardboard, along with blackout curtains. Also, there would be shuttle buses inside the Village.
"The athletes are grateful that these Olympic Games are happening under these circumstances and that all measures are being taken to deliver safe and secure Games. After all that they had to overcome during this last year - where they did not know whether the next competition would take place, they did not know whether they could go to training the next day, they did not know where they would meet with their coach again - after all this additional stress during the pandemic, finally, they can shine on the Olympic stage. And, I hope that they will, under these circumstances nevertheless, enjoy it to the fullest," said Thomas Bach (IOC President) in a release.
