Tokyo Olympics: India creates history as Neeraj Chopra hands India gold in Javelin Throw

Synopsis

India created history by ending its Tokyo Olympics campaign on the most excellent height, with javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra handing India the gold medal.

India created history in its final event of the Tokyo Olympics. In the javelin throw finals, India won the gold medal, thanks to Neeraj Chopra's heroic effort.

It was the perfect start from the Indian, as he fired 87.03m to shoot up to the top of the table in the opening round itself while a couple of Germans challenged him. In the second attempt, Neeraj bettered it by throwing it at a distance of 87.58m, thus maintaining his top spot.

In the third attempt, it seemed Neeraj was running low on fumes, as he could manage just 76.79m, but maintained his top spot. In the following couple of attempts, he threw it around 75m, while he was disqualified for overstepping.

In the final round, Neeraj bounced back in style, firing 84.24m. The silver and bronze medals were claimed by the Czech Republican duo of Jakub Vadlejch and Vitezslav Vesley.
