'This moment is yours!': Abhinav Bindra congratulates Neeraj Chopra on joining the golden club

Synopsis

The proudest moment of India at the Tokyo Olympics came when javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra bagged the gold medal. Consequently, fellow gold-medalist Abhinav Bindra had to congratulate him and here's what he said.

India is still celebrating its success in the just-concluded Tokyo Olympics, which was its best stint ever, winning seven medals. A gold medal was also in the bag, won by javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra.

Consequently, he became India's only second-ever individual gold medalist. Earlier, shooter Abhinav Bindra had done the same during the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Meanwhile, as Neeraj scripted history, he had to be applauded by Bindra on joining the golden club. While the latter was conspicuous not speaking anything on the same to the media, he responded to what Neeraj had to say to Asianet News.

Speaking to Asianet News, Neeraj said, "It was a proud moment when Bindra had won the gold for India. And now, I have joined him. It still feels like a dream, winning the gold in my maiden Olympics. Really feeling happy to have joined Abhinav ji, who did such an incredible job. He opened the doors of India's mentality of winning gold in individual sports. He has had a huge role to play in this and I am just walking in his footsteps."

Responding to this, Bondra tweeted, "Dear @Neeraj_chopra1, thank you for your kind words, but your victory is due to your hard work and determination alone. This moment belongs to you! Enjoy and savour it!!!"

Earlier, following Neeraj's gold, Bindra had sent out a tweet congratulating him on the feat. "And Gold it is for @Neeraj_chopra1. Take a bow, young man! You have fulfilled a nation's dream. Thank you! Also, welcome to the club - a much-needed addition! Extremely proud. I am so delighted for you," he had written.

Besides, he followed it up with a statement. Later, he also sent out a video congratulating Neeraj again on his success and applauding his hard work and determination.
