The man-of-the-match of the India-Pakistan game on June 4, Yuvraj Singh, dedicated his knock to the survivors of cancer and the victims of the London attacks. He makes this gesture on occasion of ‘Cancer Survivor Day’.

In a match riddled with rain, India posted 319 from 48 overs. Although Rohit Sharma hit a classy 91 and captain Virat Kohli scoring an aggressive 81, it was the southpaw’s blistering knock of 53 out of 32 deliveries that played a crucial part in India’s campaign.

Yuvraj Singh made his international debut in the ICC KnockOut Trophy. His 80-ball 84 against Australia, then having the most fearsome bowlers in Glen McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie was awe inspiring. They went on to win that match and beat Australia, then considered a Herculean task.

Yuvraj Singh himself is a cancer survivor. During World Cup 2011, he was often seen panting on the field, even vomiting once. Even with all the hardships, he played brilliantly for team India and was crucial in winning the World Cup. He was named man of the tournament.

A chest scan revealed that he had a malignant tumour. A germ cell cancer called a mediastinal seminoma was diagnosed. He decided to fight back and underwent some gruelling sessions of chemotherapy. By 2012 he made his comeback and hasn't looked back.
