LSG vs MI, IPL 2025 highlights: Suryakumar, Hardik's efforts in vain as MI lose by 12 runs

Hardik Pandya: Disappointing when you lose. If we had to be honest, in the field, 10-12 runs we gave too much. We fell short in the end. [On his bowling] Always enjoyed my bowling. I don't have many options but I read the wicket and use smarter options. I never go for wickets but try to make batters make mistakes. Today was one of those days. As a batting unit, we fell short. We win as a team, we lose as a team. I take full ownership. [Tilak retired out] We needed some hits, he was not getting those. In cricket some of those days come, when you try but they don't come. Just play good cricket, I like to keep it simple. Take better calls, be smart in bowling, take chances in batting. It is a long tournament, you get a couple of wins and get into the rhythm

Lucknow Super Giants registered their 2nd win of the season with a 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians. After posting a total of 203/8, thanks to fifties by Mitchell Marsh (60) and Aiden Markram (54), LSG bowlers restricted MI to 191/5 despite half-century by Suryakumar Yadav (63). Hardik Pandya looked to pull off a victory for Mumbai when they required 22 off 6 balls, but fell 13-run short 204-run target. Shardul Thakur, Digvesh Singh Rathi, Avesh Khan, and Akash Deep picked a wicket each.

RETIRED OUT! Tilak Varma walked off the field before final ball of the over as the MI management decided to retire out the batter and Mitchell Santner joined Hardik Pandya at the crease. MI need 22 off  6 balls

WICKET! Avesh Khan bowled a wide delivery outside off stump. If Suryakumar Yadav (63) had left it alone, it might’ve been called a wide. But he moved a long way across to try and sweep it over deep backward square leg. He was off-balance and didn’t time the shot well. MI need 40 off 18 balls to win.

FIFTY! Suryakumar Yadav gets his first fifty of the season. He raised his bat to ackowledge the applause from the Mumbai Indians dug out. MI need 71 off 36 balls.

After Naman Dhir's dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma carried on Mumbai Indians' 201-run chase. MI will be relying on the middle-order to chase down the hefty target. MI need 91 off 48 balls to win.

WICKET! Digvesh Rath bowls a good-length delivery outside off stump. Naman Dhir tries to flick it too square but misses, and the ball hits the off-stump. There might have been a slight inside edge before it hit the stumps. MI need 115 off 66 balls to win.

Mumbai Indians batter Naman Dhir has taken charge of the team's 201-run chase as he steadied the ship, alongside Suryakumar Yadav to keep the visitors in hunt for a win. MI need 129 off 78 balls to win.

Naman Dhir went bonkers against Akash Deep as he smashed him for 21 runs, including two sixes and as many fours in the 4th over. MI need 158 runs off 96 balls to win.

WICKET! Shardul bowls a short ball aimed at the body. Rickelton (10) tries to pull it but doesn't get enough height on the shot. The ball goes straight to the fielder at deep backward square, and Bishnoi takes an easy catch this time. MI need 179 off 102 balls to win.

WICKET! Akash Deep bowled a short-pitched delivery, and Jacks (5) hit a strong pull shot. But the ground was big, so the ball didn’t travel far enough. Bishnoi positioned himself well and took a smart catch near deep backward square. MI need 191 off 114 balls to win.

Lucknow Super Giants set a target of 204-run target for Mumbai Indians to chase. 

Hardik Pandya picked two wickets of David Miller and Akash Deep on two consecutive delivers to complete first 5-wicket haul in his IPL career. 

Score: LSG - 201/8 in 19.5 overs.

WICKET! Trent Boult bowls a slower short-of-length delivery, angled away from the batter. Samad (4) tries to pull it from outside off, aiming for the longest part of the ground. But he doesn’t time it well and can’t clear the boundary. Dhir runs in and takes an easy catch.

WICKET! Hardik Pandya bowls a slower ball into the pitch. Markram (53) sees some width and tries to hit it over the off-side, but because the ball is slower, it goes straighter than he intended. Bawa runs in from long-off and takes a very good catch.

WICKET! Badoni (30) moved across and got down on one knee to play a lap shot, but Ayush bowled it shorter and wider than expected. The ball took a top edge, and Rickelton jumped up to take a good catch.

Ayush Badoni took on MI spiner Mitchell Santner as he smashed him for three consecutive fours and 14 runs in the 14th over.

WICKET! Rishabh Pant's poor form continues as he was dismissed cheaply for 2 runs by Hardik Pandya. The MI captain bowled a delivery that held up a bit and landed on a good length. Pant tried to play it towards the leg side but got a leading edge. Corbin Bosch at mid-off ran in quickly, slid forward, and took a brilliant one-handed catch.

WICKET! Hardik Pandya bowls a short, slower ball. Nicholas Pooran (12) tries to play a pull shot too early and ends up giving an easy catch to Deepak Chahar at short fine leg. It was a straightforward catch for the fielder.

WICKET! Vignesh Puthur gets first breakthrough for Mumbai Indians as he dismissed dangerous Mitchell Marsh (60). Vignesh bowled a slow, loopy delivery. Marsh tried to play it towards the leg side but got a leading edge. The ball popped up in the air, and Vignesh took a good low catch off his own bowling.

FIFTY! Mitchell Marsh gets his third fifty of the season. 3 fifties in four matches, Marsh is in sublime touch and proving to be a vital cog in the top order this season. Also, the Australian batter took on Ashwani Kumar as he smashed for 23 runs in the 6th over.

Lucknow Super Giants openers Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram struggled to play against Ashwani Kumar as the young Mumbai Indians pacer conceded just 3 runs in the first over of his spell.

SIX! Trent Boult bowls a full delivery outside the off stump. Mitchell Marsh gets underneath it and hits it powerfully over mid-off. Great shot—it goes all the way for a six. He followed through nicely with the shot.

Rishabh Pant (LSG): I think we are pretty confident as a batting unit. A very strong unit. Few of our players haven't come off including me. We had talked to play in this fashion throughout the tournament. The general discussion is to go our there and express yourself. We haven't talked about target we want to achieve. Just play the ball and watch the ball and react. I think we are pretty confident. The way I have set up myself. Once we get a start, we will capitalize. Just one change for us. Darren Ganga: We are moving from pitch number 4 which is red soil to pitch number 6, this is black soil. There will be a change on the square boundaries - 73 and 66 meters square, 78 meters down the ground. It is dark, it is black, it has got a covering a grass but you're seeing that bare patches all around. The seam movement was quite low in the previous game, spin was only 1.4 degrees and the average bounce was very good for batting, you could hit through the line, but with this black soil there will be lowering of bounce. Spinners might get a little more turn and it will be a little bit slower. The average first innings score is 181 and that's your benchmark for batting first.
