The Pakistan Super League match between Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, was abandoned on Tuesday without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain and strong winds.
The toss, scheduled for 6:30 PM local time, was delayed as showers intensified. Strong gusts made it difficult for ground staff to secure the covers, with several members losing balance and falling while trying to drag them across the field. The worsening conditions left the pitch covered and the outfield soaked, eliminating any possibility of play.
Officials eventually called off the match 30 minutes before the cut‑off time for a five‑over contest. Both sides were awarded one point each.
With the result, Peshawar Zalmi moved to three points from two matches, climbing to second place in the standings ahead of Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. Islamabad United, meanwhile, registered their first point of the season, moving up to sixth position, just above Rawalpindi Pindiz.
Despite the efforts of the ground staff, the persistent rain and strong winds proved decisive. The incident highlighted the challenges faced in maintaining playability under extreme weather conditions, particularly when safety of players and staff is at risk.
Zalmi will next face Hyderabad Kingsmen on April 8 in Karachi, while United are scheduled to meet Quetta Gladiators on April 4 at the same venue.
