IPL 2018: RCB fan? Here is what is going wrong for the RCB this time

Yet another defeat and RCB joins MI and DD in scraping at the bottom of the table. To make things worse, there is a 4-point gap between KXIP (in the 4th position) and MI (level on points with DD and RCB - in the next position). Have the four playoff spots been confirmed? There are still games to know, but I can't see how the bottom four will manage to challenge the top-four now.

RCB is living up to the reputations once again by failing in IPL 2018 too.

Virat Kohli-led team lost another big match against CSK and have managed only 3 wins so far

Here is why...

They do have a decent squad that is very much capable of winning the title this year, but there are some factors bothering the RCB this year.

Team selection has been the main issue for the Royal Challengers Bangalore thus far. If you look at the teams that they have fielded in all the six matches they have played till now, not even a single team seems to have the right balance.

They went with Sarfaraz Khan in the initial few matches which still was understood as they had retained him (not sure why), but he didn’t perform to anybody’s expectations. He was removed from the team against the Rajasthan Royals, but he again came back against Mumbai, the move which has no explanation. And then, he was once again removed. So they aren’t sure whether to play Sarfaraz Khan or not. They need to land on a decision whether to let him play or not, because changing the team, again and again, will not work for sure.

Against Mumbai, we also got to see Corey Anderson in the team, and he has remained in the team since then. Take a look at the figures in all the three matches he has played so far:

  • Against Mumbai: 4 overs, 47 runs, 2 wickets. Economy rate of 11.75.
  • Against Rajasthan: 1 over, 10 runs, 1 wicket. Economy rate of 10.
  • Against Chennai: 3.4 overs, 58 runs, 0 wickets. Economy rate of 15.81.

In every match, he has had an economy rate of 10, or more than that, and has scored just 17 runs in three innings so far. Not sure why he remains to be in the team, in spite of having Colin de Grandhomme on the bench.

Then, Manan Vohra was brought into the team against Delhi and Mumbai which seemed to be a good call as his presence at the top of the order would provide depth in the batting. Unfortunately, he failed and the next game, he was sitting on the bench.

A player should at least get a few games to showcase his potential, and for sure should not be removed just after one match. He has performed well for KXIP in the previous editions of the IPL and should have been given at least another chance.

We finally got to see Colin de Grandhomme coming into the team against CSK but in place of Chris Woakes, who was their leading wicket-taker along with Umesh Yadav. Meanwhile, Corey Anderson continued to be in the team. That was a shocking decision by Virat & Co. Woakes has been a little expensive, but unlike Corey, he at least has been within the wickets for his team. That decision by the team management cost RCB the match I suppose.

Then, what shall be the best team for RCB in the upcoming matches? Here is my team, which appears to be the most balanced team for the franchise:

  1. Quinton de Kock (WK)
  2. Manan Vohra/Parthiv Patel
  3. Virat Kohli (Captain)
  4. AB De Villiers
  5. Mandeep Singh
  6. Colin de Grandhomme
  7. Washington Sundar
  8. Chris Woakes/Tim Southee
  9. Umesh Yadav
  10. Mohammad Siraj
  11. Yuzvendra Chahal
