Indian team for T20 Blind World Cup to be out by December 15

The T20 Blind World Cup is set to be played in January 2017. Defending champions, India, are the hosts. CABI will announce the 17-member Indian team by December 15.

A total of 30 players will participate in the camp for a spot in the eventual 17-member Indian national blind cricket team that will play the second edition of the T20 World Cup.

John David, General Secretary of Cricket Association for the Blind in India (CABI) in a conversation with Asianet Newsable revealed that the body will announce the 17-member Indian team by December 15.

India, who won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2012, will be hosting the tournament in 2017. Former Indian cricketer, Rahul Dravid has been named the brand ambassador, in a hope to attract more viewers.

The matches will be played at nine different centres from January 31 to February 12.

According to a press release from CABI, India and West Indies will play the opening match, and it is Bengaluru that will host the grand finale.

David also mentioned that CABI has asked for financial support from the Karnataka government.

CABI Chief Mahantesh G Kivadasannavar met Pramod Madhvaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Services & Sports, Government of Karnataka in Belgaum earlier this week regarding the same. However, the Blind association is yet to receive a response from the state government.
