EPL 2021-22, Matchday 7 review: Manchester United, Arsenal held; Chelsea dominates Southampton

The 2021-22 English Premier League witnessed its Matchday 7 commitments getting underway from Saturday. Three of the top sides were involved in the action, with only one producing an affirmative result.


The English Premier League (EPL) 2021-22 has just started its Matchday 7 commitments, while the league table continues to get intense with each passing matchday. On Saturday, three of the top sides were involved in actions as we review them.

Manchester United held by Everton
United's low-key run continued at Old Trafford as it was held to a 1-1 draw by fourth-placed Everton. It all started after Anthony Martial put the host ahead in the 43rd minute, as the Red Devils maintained the lead at half-time.

However, in the following half, Andros Townsend levelled it in the 65th minute, producing a tremendous defensive display to restrict United, which was on an attacking spree and dominating with possession. The draw helps United stay on third.

Chelsea dominates Southampton
Chelsea had a glorious ride in its home game against 17th-placed Southampton. Trevoh Chalobah began the scoring proceedings in the ninth minute, as The Blues led at half-time.

In the second half, James Ward-Prowse levelled it for Southampton in the 61st through a penalty. However, he was handed a red card in the 77th minute for a horrific tackle on Jorginho.

Chelsea capitalised on the same, as Timo Werner restored the lead at 84th, while Ben Chilwell doubled it five minutes later to seal a comfortable win. It has risen to the top spot, for now.

Brighton holds off Arsenal
Arsenal's recent surge in form was brought to a halt as fifth-placed Brighton and Hove Albion held it goalless at home. A total of 14 attempts were made in the game but to no avail. The Gunners has risen a spot to ninth.
