American sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson fails dope test, Tokyo Olympics stint in jeopardy

Sha'Carri Richardson is an American sprinter, as she is scheduled to make her Olympics debut in Tokyo this month. However, she has failed a dope test that puts her stint in doubt. She tested positive for the banned substance cannabis.

In what comes as a shock for the American Olympic contingent, sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson has failed a dope test. As a result, she could miss out on her Tokyo Olympics berth.

According to a report by Cincinnati Enquirer, Sha'Carri tested positive for cannabis, which is also commonly known as marijuana. Naturally, the substance falls under the prohibited list of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

If found guilty, Sha'Carri could be handed a ban of a maximum of four years. However, if she can prove that it was used outside the competition, with no intention of enhancing his performance, the ban could be curtailed to three months, reports Jamaica Gleaner.

As of now, she could be handed a 30-day ban, which could force her to miss out on the 100m event. However, the ban could end before her 4x100m relay. Nevertheless, it is unsure if she would be allowed to compete in the event. Furthermore, if she is indeed to miss out on her Tokyo berth, she would be replaced by Jenna Prandini. Sha'Carri had finished first in the 100m dash during the United States Olympic Trials, with a timing of 10.86.

She is yet to respond about her failed dope test. However, she has withdrawn from Stockholm's Diamond League meet, where she was scheduled to compete in the 200m event on Sunday. She sent out a tweet later on Thursday, saying, "I am human."
