Late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was known as the 'Iron Lady' of Tamil Nadu. But one got to see the gentle side of Jayalalithaa when she reached out to her reel mother Sukumari, who was battling for life at a private hospital in Chennai, after suffering burn injuries.
Sukumari sccumbed to her injuries soon after. In her memoir 'Ormakalude Vellithira', Sukumari had recalled the warm relation they had shared and hailed Jayalalitha as an efficient politician and a voracious reader.
The veteran actress had played the role of Jayalalithaa's mother in the 1972 movie 'Pattikada Pattanama'. The film had won National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil and Jayalalithaa had bagged Film Fare Award for her role. After the release of the film both the actresses have played mother-daughter duo in six to seven films.
