Two arrested for hijacking truck to steal Rs 74 lakh worth copper

Synopsis

 

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested two people who ambushed the lorry driver and escaped with 14.70 tons of copper coils worth ₹75 lakh.

 

Tamil Nadu resident Ashok Kumar, 41, and Cottonpet Shanmugavelu were arrested by Bengaluru police and the stolen copper coils were recovered from them

 

The stolen consignment was brought to Electronic City in Bengaluru for sale when the duo was arrested.

 

According to the crime branch officials, the accused had approached a shop to sell the consignment. Suspicious of the smugglers' mannerisms, the owner tipped off the police who arrested the duo.

 

Investigations have revealed that there are more people involved in this racket.

 

Based on the information given by the arrested men during the investigation, efforts are being made to nab other smugglers who are allegedly involved in the case, the police said.
