Synopsis

A church in the Union Christian College campus in Tumakuru was attacked with a petrol bomb on Thursday morning. As a result of the petrol bomb explosion, the walls and the main entrance of the Tomlinson Church were damaged, the police said.

The guard on duty spotted the main gate on fire and tried to put it off. Senior police officials, who investigated the damage, rushed to the stop to avoid any tension in the area.

A complaint has been registered by church secretary Bhushan.

Tumakuru superintendent of police SP Karthik Reddy has assured that those responsible for the attack will be arrested as soon as possible. Four police teams have been put together to investigate the matter.

Tumakuru legislator Dr Rafeeq Ahmed  suggested that the motive behind the attack was to create religious unrest in the society.

District administration has taken the matter seriously. "The police have been scanning the church CCTV footage with a fine-tooth comb. We should remain calm let the police do their job. At this hour, it is important to maintain peace and harmony in the society," said deputy commissioner KP Mohan Raj.
