In the last 40 days, Karnataka has witnessed 3 bandhs, massive protests and two festivals, distracting the state police from looking into crime related cases. Ganesh Chaturti which is celebrated throughout the month across the state, requires constant vigilance of the police and this has diverted their attention from criminal cases. Moreover, Bakrid is also celebrated in the same month and the state often witnesses communal riots in sensitive parts of the state.
Even police dogs are facing pressure given the number of protests and bandhs the state has witnessed in last one month. According to the police, there are only 100 trained dogs with the Karnataka police, out of which 60 are with Bengaluru police. Out of these 60 dogs only 2 have been assigned for 20 districts which means more than 9 districts have no dog squad at all.
Apart from their daily patrolling at Majestic Bus Stand,International Air Port, Vidhana Soudha, Raj Bhavan, High Court and other heavily crowded areas, these dogs are also sent to other districts in case of VVIP functions.
Now more than 800 organisations have called for Karnataka bandh on September 9 and the state police have assigned 30 battalions of KSRP & CAR. Moreover, Rapid Action Force (RAF) and 1 thousand home guards are deputed across the city to maintain law and order situation on Friday .
