Telangana's KCR to build tallest CMO in India

Synopsis

To get rid of what Telangana politicians love to describe the ‘Andhra colonial’ past, the Telangana CM is planning the tallest Chief Minister’s Office in the country. While his Andhra counterpart Chandrababu Naidu has not been able to finalise the design and the builder to build Amaravati, KCR has picked the famous Hafeez Contractor and asked him to design Telangana’s ‘seat of power’ Ever since he assumed office in May 2014 in new–born Telangana, KCR has been on the reconstruction spree.

The chief minister of newest state of India will soon sit in the tallest CMO (chief minister’s office) in the subcontinent. Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will soon have his office located in an 11-story building being designed Hafeez Contractor.

To get rid of what Telangana politicians love to describe the ‘Andhra colonial’ past, the CM is planning the tallest Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) in the country.

A strict adherent of vastu and regional sentiment, KCR has found the existing secretariat, modernised by TDP founder NT Ramarao, and the man who gave political life to KCR, unfit for the state of Telangana.  According to reports, the works for the new seat of power of Telangana will begin from Dasara, after the present structure is razed.

While his Andhra counterpart Chandrababu Naidu has not been able to finalise the design and the builder to build the new administrative capital Amaravati, KCR, on other hand, has picked the famous Hafeez Contractor and asked him to design Telangana’s ‘seat of power’.

Meanwhile, Naidu and his officials have gone around the globe and visited as many as a dozen countries to study the designs of their core capital. Crores have been spent on these study tours.

A design approved by renowned Japanese company turned out to be a poor imitation of the Chandigarh model and looked like cooling towers of a nuclear plant, and was even construed as India’s nuclear plant by Pakistan media.

Ever since he assumed office in May 2014 in new–born Telangana, KCR has been on the reconstruction spree. First, he sought to redesign all the irrigation projects in the state and now he has embarked on the core capital reconstruction in the name of getting rid of the Andhra past.

The plan is to build an 11-floor building to house the chief minister’s office and two or four nine-storey blocks for the rest of the government departments.

According to reports, the new CMO is going to be vastu-perfect in every respect. “The architecture of the seat of the Telangana government should be reflective of the region’s culture and heritage. The CM’s own office in the CMO complex will be located in the north-eastern side of the building.

“All other departments and associated government sections will be located in the other blocks,” the reports said adding that these blocks would be built in north and south directions as suggested by chief minister KCR.

Meanwhile, the state Assembly’s Congress deputy leader, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarkha, rubbished the whole project as a money-spinning business. Talking to Asianet Newsable, he said Telangana had many more things which need urgent attention.

"TRS promised free KG to PG education. The party promised houses to the poor. Instead of realising these promises the party is embarking on huge construction-based projects that have no immediate relevance. CMO construction can wait. People immediately need housing, education and jobs," he said adding that the party would raise these issues in the ensuing Assembly session.
