Railways moot lady officers to ensure safety of women

Railways have decided to introduce lady police officers in trains to ensure the safety of female passengers. Officers in the rank of sub-inspectors will be deployed at five railway stations in the state.
At present, none of the railway stations in Kerala has women officers. There are only 38 police women deployed in 13 stations in the state.
The Railways have also proposed to increase the number of police women in police force. In the initial phase, women officers will be deployed at Kannur, Ernakulam, Shornur, Kozhikode and Thrissur stations.
Though thousands of women are travelling in trains daily across the state, the Railways have not deployed enough lady officers for their protection. Existing officers won't be able to ensure the security of female travellers even during day time.
There is only one lady officer in Kasargod Railway Police station and three at Kannur station.
