Bengaluru is celebrating Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, amidst series of cases of molestation being reported from the city. Will the incidents affect the celebrations or Bengaluru will stand up for the cause and send shivers down the spines of the molesters, we will have to wait till tomorrow?

 

The 14th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is being held at Bengaluru for three days from January 7. The event is being held in commemoration of the day when the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa.

 

The first Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was held in 2003 in New Delhi. Every year January 9 is celebrated as the Divas. Last year it was held in Gujarat.

 

The event is held to celebrate the service of people to India, who have lived abroad and encouraged them to make their yeomen services to the country.

 

Will the incidents of molestations rock the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas or will it become a forum to discuss and find some working solutions to the problem as the issue is being discussed even in the international sphere will be answered tomorrow and the days to follow?

 

The event will also have important discussions on demonetisation too as it has affected the NRIs and their business propositions.

 

Exhibition stall will be put up by 14 states including Karnataka, Kerala, Assam and Haryana. So far the Ministery of External Affairs has finalised over 6,000 registrations for the event. Proper measures are being taken to provide security top the dignitaries and arrangements have been made for their safe stay, said sources.
