Karnataka: Police officer accused of kidnapping commits suicide

Synopsis

 

DySP Kallappa's body was found at his wife's grandmother's house in Belgaum, Muragoda Police Station limits.

 

Following DySP Kallappa's role in demanding a ransom of ₹10 lakh after the abduction of a boy named Tejas with the help of local rowdies. Kallappa was suspended from service. 

 

Tejas was kidnapped on June 27.

 

Though Kallappa made sure not to appear personally in the entire incident, he was tracked through his phone number.

 

After the ransom had been paid to the person concerned, Tejas filed a case with the superintendent of police Santhosh.

 

When the SP investigated the matter, the number used for the crime was traced to Kallappa.

 

A case in this regard has been filed at Basavanahalli Police Station and investigation is on. The SP has directed officers to intensify their probe to unravel the facts.

 

Tejas and his friends were caught gambling during a police raid. Later Tejas was out on bail. Some days later, he was kidnapped by a group of men, who called DySP Kallappa’s number and asked Tejas to pay the ransom to the person he spoke to over the phone.

 

Tejas’s friend had brought the payment and made a call to the number to give the money. Later when traced, the number was discovered to be under the name of DySP Kallappa.
