
National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought a report from Kerala government on various incidents of violence in Kannur post assembly elections and deplored the violence in Pinarayi Vijayan's constituency.
After taking a tour of the violence-hit Pinarayi village in Kannur and conducting a sitting to listen to the grievances of the public, Lalitha Kumaramangalam, the Chairperson of the NCW said that it was extremely regrettable that women and children are targetted in the political violence.

" To see women being targetted, specifically targetted, is extremely regrettable. That too, in the constituency of a gentleman who has just been elected the Chief Minister of the state," Kumaramangalam said.

"Part of governance is to ensure that every citizen of the state is safe and secure, especially the more vulnerable," she reminded the state government.
Sporadic incidents of political violence had been reported from various parts of Kannur after the recent Kerala elections. The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress have taken up the issue to target the new Left Democratic Front (LDF) government that assumed office in Kerala.

Alleging that the BJP workers and their houses are under constant attack in the village of Pinarayi Vijayan, the BJP have started a national campaign against what it called 'red terror'. The BJP National Executive had also deplored the 'CPM violence' in Kerala.
The Kerala Congress Pradesh Committee on Tuesday organised a protest meeting at Kannur against the CPM-BJP violence in the district.
