National Film Award: Akshay bags ₹50,000 while Mohanlal gets ₹2 lakh

Synopsis

Akshay Kumar won the Best Actor Award for his performance in Rustom Mohanlal was given Special Jury Award for his roles in the three films Akshay is the sole Bollywood recipient in the four top categories

Akshay Kumar, the Khiladi of Bollywood, might have bagged the National Film Award for best actor, but Mohanlal will walk away with a bigger purse. He won the Special Jury Award for his performance in Pulimurugan, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol (Malayalam) and Janatha Garage (Telugu). 
 

Akshay bagged the Best Actor award for his patriotic turn in crime thriller Rustom. He will be awarded Rajat Kamal and cash prize of ₹50, 000 while Mohanlal will get Rajat Kamal and a purse of ₹2 lakh. 
 


 

Akshay is the sole Bollywood recipient in the four top categories. Unlike last year when Bollywood dominated the awards, regional cinema grabbed maximum awards this year. 
 

The other Bollywood name that featured in the list is Zaira Wasim, who won Best Supporting Actress for child star for her performance in Dangal. 
 

Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Pink, which won the award for Best Film on Social Cause, while Ram Madhvani's biopic Neerja was named Best Hindi Film of the year. Ajay Devgan's Shivaay was the only other Bollywood film that won the award for Best Special Effects.
