Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader K P A Majeed has come down heavily on Sunni supremo Kanthapuram A P Aboobacker Musliyar, alleging that the general secretary of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulema (AISJU) had deceived both the Muslims and the secular people in the state.
Majeed said Musliyar played a prominent role in diverting Muslim votes for the BJP in places including Manjeshwar.
"His activities were against the Muslims and were conducive to divide the community," alleged Majeed.
Kanthapuram aligned with the BJP and Sangh Parivar for personal interests, he added.
BJP had claimed that they had incurred acceptance among the Christian minority in the state and is trying to gain the acceptance of Muslims.
However, Kanthapuram had not replied to the claim of BJP, which has provoked the IUML leader.
Majeed said BJP leader Sreedharan Pillai had publically declared that Kanthapuram has promised him support for elections.
A BJP candidate from Malappuram constituency also claimed to have the support of Musliyar. Kanthapuram never denied any of these claims, he said.
Majeed further said that another BJP leader once stated that Kanthapuram is the first Muslim cleric to accept Narendra Modi.
"Kanthapuram and his followers greeted those words with resounding applause," Majeed said in the article.
