
Flaying the Supreme Court order, various farmers’ organizations and pro-Kannada activists and outfits have been holding agitations and protest rallies in Mandya.
During the Mandya bandh, stones were pelted on buses belonging to state road transport corporations which plied on Bengaluru–Tamil Nadu routes on Tuesday. This resulted in losses to the tune of ₹63.30 lakh.
As agitations and strikes intensified on Wednesday, the service of 536 buses was withdrawn by authorities and this made a dent of ₹61 lakh to the exchequor. Apart from this, passenger traffic from Bengaluru also saw a sharp decline in view of the prevailing tense situation.
Bus Terminals Empty: As various organizations had given a bandh call and agitations and rasta rokos were intensified, passengers were not inclined to travel. As a result, various bus terminals in Bengaluru wore a deserted look without the usual hustle and bustle. Satellite Bus Stand on Mysore road, Kempegowda Bus Terminal at Majestic, Shantinagar Bus Terminal in KH Road were by and large empty.
Who All Supporting Bundh: A large number of organizations, associations have given a call for Karnataka Bundh on Friday. They are supported by the Bengaluru Chemists and Druggists Association, State Government Employees’ Association, Greater Bengaluru Hotels and Restaurants’ Association, Federation of Muslim Association and other outfits.
