Under the pretext of purchasing jewellery, a 'customer' stole a gold necklace weighing 400 grams from a jewellery store in Bengaluru.

The 40-year-old man, who allegedly stole ₹12 lakh-worth necklace from Guruprasad Jewellers, tricked jewellery store owner Ganesh claiming he wanted to gift a gold necklace to a pundit.

Ganesh was at the store to verify the account book on Tuesday evening when the incident occurred.

The conman claimed that he planned to move into a new house and wanted to gift a necklace to the pundit who will be conducting the housewarming ceremony.

According to the owner, he stepped out for a while to attend a phone call when the conman stole the necklace and walked out of the store.

Waiting for the 'customer' to return with the necklace, Ganesh was anxious and checked the CCTV footage when he realised he was robbed.

A complaint was filed at Subramanyapura police station.
