5 Kumaraswamy questions that left Karnataka government dumbfounded

Synopsis

Former Chief Minister and Janata Dal (S) President, HD Kumaraswamy urged the government to file an FIR against the three officials whom DySP MK Ganapathi accused of harassment prior to his suicide.

Addressing the suicide of MK Ganapathy at the legislative assembly on 12 July 2016, Kumaraswamy quoted a decree by the Supreme Court which states that ‘a case should be filed on the basis of dying declaration if there is any.

Tragedies such as this should not be used to fulfil political motives, the case should be handled in all seriousness with the intention to bring out the truth; to this effect, Kumaraswamy posed a series of questions to the Karnataka government that left all present dumbfounded.

  1. You have publicised the statement by Kushalappa (Ganapathy’s father) that was registered under section 174 of the CRPC Act. This Act is only limited to the inquisition and submission of the statement; how then did you publicly proclaim such a statement without an investigation first? 1. Arun Chakravarti, the IGP of the west zone has confirmed that Ganapathy was mentally healthy and that the deceased DySP was taking his advice before acting on any case. How can Rajendra Kumar, the SP of Coorg, who is in no way related to Ganapathy’s case, make a statement that Ganapati was mentally ill?

  1. KJ George can be made the deputy CM if and when he gets a clean chit after investigation; I don’t have any objection. But what is stopping you from asking George to resign till the CID investigation gets over?

  1. According to the rules, any departmental enquiry should be completed within nine months, why was the departmental enquiry with regards to Ganapathy dragged for 6-7 years?

  1. Kempaiah, the current adviser to the home department, had earlier taken voluntary resignation from his post as Assistant Director General of Police (ADGP), stating that was unable to work effectively in his VRS application. How can a man who claimed that he was not efficient during his years of service be the advisor to the home department? Is to hide the crimes of the home department?
