
Women have become the driving force for Namma Metro, as recently women have filled 59% positions of loco pilots in this Bengaluru metro.
Recently, Namma Metro appointed 97 Loco Pilots for operating the metros out of which 57 are female candidates (59%). Currently, 467 loco pilots are working in Namma Metro.
Namma Metro has reserved 30% of posts for women in all categories of jobs viz., Loco Pilot, Security Personnel, conductors, etc. However, women candidates are grabbing more number of posts beyond the percentage of reservation.
The selection process for loco pilots has multiple stages, and candidates have to pass each stage to reach the next stage before finally getting appointed. In this selection process, women are progressing at every stage and are obtaining employment in all categories.
BMRCL conducts examinations for the post of Loco Pilots every year. The first phase of Metro trains will complete in April 2017. However, it has already filled all required positions well in advance.
BMRCL has set Diploma as the minimum educational qualification for the post of Loco Pilots. However, BE and M. Tech. Graduates are also applying for this post. Sources of BMRCL say that they are receiving 10 thousand applications for just 100 posts.
BMRCL has fixed a salary of ₹ 30,000 for the position of Loco Pilots. BE graduates are also applying for this post since the job opportunities are less in private sector due to less competition. Even higher number of posts will be created after the completion of the second and third phase of Namma Metro.
Working in Namma Metro for four weeks under internship is also a mandatory selection procedure. BMRCL has published a guidelines booklet for the internship.
