Kerala police, which is already facing allegations, landed in a soup after a sub-inspector resorted to primitive methods while dealing with offenders. Senior official had to issue a 'punishment transfer' to the officer, after Kerala Police Complaints Authority chairman Justice Narayana Kurup himself demanded immediate action against the officer.
Thrikkakara Assistant Commissioner ordered a transfer hours after Kurup made a surprise visit to the station where sub-inspector A C Vipin had locked up three youths, in their under pants. The chairman made a surprise visit to the station after he came to know about the incident and demanded authorities to take quick action.
Reports are that the youths were taken into custody during a routine check-up after it was found that two of them were in an inebriated condition.
A team led by sub-inspector found the youths in car in Kochukadavanthara in Kochi, at 10.30 pm. Two of them were drunk, but the driver wasn't. Though no charge of drunken driving could be slapped, the officer asked them to get on to the police vehicle to undergo medical tests. However, they were taken to police station and was locked in a cell. The officer also stripped them and did not allow to wear any thing but the under pants.
It was only after the visit of Justice Narayana Kurup that the youths were allowed to wear dress. Based on a direction from the chairman, Assistant Commissioner issued a transfer order to the sub--inspector.
