Ten polling officers booked for aiding bogus voting in Kannur

Synopsis

Police On Tuesday filed First Information Report (FIR) against the polling officers from Kudiyanmala and Taliparamba in Kannur district, following a report submitted by the district police chief. The Election Commission had ordered a special probe into the issue. During the probe, it was found that 20 fake votes were cast at booth no. 109 at Eruvessi panchayat with the connivance of polling officials. 

The Revenue Department had handed over the voter's list to the police based on a direction from Kerala High Court. Police have included the first polling officer V K Sajeevan, Second polling officer K V Santhosh and third polling officer Sudheep and Shajinesh as accused in the FIR submitted before the Chief Judicial Magistrate. The court also sent notices to the officials. 
The police also booked six polling officers for allegedly supporting casting of fake votes at Koover Lower Primary School in Taliparamba.
