Kerala court confisticates Tamil Nadu bus over accident compensation

The bus had met with an accident in January, 2006 MACT court had ordered TNSTC to pay ₹14 lakh towards compensation Court ordered to confiscate the bus after TNSTC failed to pay the amount

In a rare incident, a court in Kerala has ordered to confiscate the bus of Tamil Nadu Road Transport Corporation (TNSTC). The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal gave the order after Corporation failed to pay compensation in the case. 

The bus had met with an accident at Killipalam, Thiruvananthapuram, on January 21, 2006. The bus rammed into the vehicle in which a couple was travelling. The woman died on the spot while her husband suffered serious injuries. The transport corporation failed to give the compensation in this case.

City Traffic Police had registered the case and court ordered ₹14 lakh towards compensation to relatives of the woman. However, TNSTC did not take any measures to pay the compensation and court further ordered to attach the bus. 

This is for the first time that the tribunal is ordering to confiscate the property of the government institution.
