Karnataka Transport department says yes to Ola, no to Uber

Synopsis

Ola has been given permission to operate according to the transport rules 2016. But Uber has lost the fight with the department and might have to wait for some more time before getting the permit.

The Karnataka state had imposed limitations following the ruling by the High Court in April. This decision of the state was opposed to the taxi owners and drivers - especially Ola and Uber, who staged a massive protest at the Freedom Park in Bengaluru.

As the protest was intensified, the government intervened and reconsidered its stand. Accordingly, after the talks, Ola has been given the permit to operate. However, so far Ola has not given out any official statement on the decision of the Karnataka Transport Department.
