Eight school children killed in Kanataka road accident

The accident took place near Tarasi NH 66 under Gangolli police station limits, The Hindu reported.

Eight school children were killed in a major accident after the vehicle carrying them was involved in a head-on collision with a private transport bus on Tuesday morning at Tarasi village of Kundapur taluk, Udupi district.

According to preliminary reports, there were 16 children between the ages of seven and 13. The kids were on their way to school in Tarasi village in an Omni van when it crashed into a speeding bus.

It is said that the bus was coming from Bhatkal and going towards Kundapur. The accident took place at a junction just a few metres away from the school, eyewitnesses said.

 

Eight children were killed on the spot. Six children are currently undergoing treatment at the paediatric ICU in Kasturba Hospital at Manipal. The driver of the Omni van is being treated at the trauma centre in the same hospital.
