  • An ordinance allowing Jallikattu formed by Tamil Nadu has been cleared by the Centre
  • Currently, it is waiting for President Pranab Mukherjee’s signature
  • TN can conduct the sport once the ordinance gets state governor’s nod too

The ordinance will come into effect after it is reviewed and approved by President Pranab Mukherjee and then by the TN governor.

An ordinance which is also known as an executive order, formed by the Tamil Nadu state was cleared by the Centre. Currently, it has been sent to President Mukherjee for his signature. The executive order comes with new restrictions on conducting Jallikattu to make it clear that animals will not be harmed in the sport. Both Tamil Nadu and the Centre have legislative power in this regard.

If President Mukherjee gives his nod to the ordinance, it will go to the Tamil Nadu Governor. The order will likely be in effect on Sunday.
