Breaking his silence over the scuffle between media persons and lawyers in Kerala, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday said that he would not intervene in the restrictions imposed on the media at the High Court.
"They are not supposed to fight against each other, and media persons have the right to report the news. Both parties are taking the issue emotionally and are using harsh words against each other. Matters that led to this situation persists," he said.
This is not a law and order problem, but an issue related to court. The government has decided to wait till a decision is taken by the court, Vijayan said.
"Government has limitations to interfere in matters concerning court. There is no dispute on the right of media to report the news. However, the media should not create a situation which will force the court to take such a stance," he said.
The Chief Minister also said that it is time to lift the restrictions imposed on media. We hope the High Court will take a decision soon, Vijayan said.
