Ganapathy’s interview not a 'dying declaration': Siddaramaiah

Synopsis

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the last interview to the late DySP MK Ganapathy to a TV channel cannot be considered as a statement before death.

The opposition had demanded that Ganapathy’s interview be considered as a 'dying declaration' and DySP’s family had tried to file a complaint on this basis.

Responding to the demands of the opposition leaders, Siddaramaiah said that his last interview cannot be taken as the evidence. The CM pointed out that Ganapathy, throughout his career, had never complained of any harassment to his higher officials. Neither had he filed any complaint against those accused in the interview.

On Tuesday, Home Minister, Dr G Parameshwara, had stated that the DySP was suffering from depression, and he faced harassment from his family. Officer’s wife Pavana had recently claimed that she would go to the Human Right Committee against this statement.

Reacting to this, the CM said that this allegation of ‘family harassment’ was not made by the government but was based on the statement of Ganapathy’s father Kushalappa in the presence of brother Machaiah. Siddaramaiah said this statement had been filmed, and he just read out the statement made by the family members.

He further said that if Pavana was hurt by this, he was sorry.
