Fire department urges power disruption for Bengaluru’s Carlton Tower

Synopsis

The Karnataka State Fire and Emergency Services (KFSES) Department has urged Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) to take off the power of Carlton Towers, which suffered a massive fire in 2010 after an inspection on April 22.

Deputy Director Fire Prevention, NR Markandeya said, based on violations like improper electricity duct, steel fabrication in the ground floor and non-functional fireman switch, a request has been forwarded to BESCOM to disrupt the power supply of the building.

Technical Director of BESCOM said required steps will be taken after keen inspection.

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner, Manjunath Prasad said the occupancy certificate which was earlier issued will be reconsidered and an investigation will be conducted.

However, Carlton Tower Owners Association President, Rekha Hamilton claimed that there were "no violations" in the building.
