Deve Gowda invites PM Modi to Mahamastakabhisheka

Synopsis

Mahamastakabhisheka is one of the most celebrated festival of Karnataka celebrated once in twelve years. Deve Gowda, also requested the PM to release support price for farmers.

HD Deve Gowda, former Prime Minister and national president of JD (S) invited PM Narendra Modi for Mahamastakabhisheka, an important Jain festival, on February 3. Muddahanume Gowda, JDS MP also accompanied Deve Gowda

 

The Mahamastakabhisheka of Gomateshwara is scheduled on February 18, 2017 at Shravanabelagola, an important Jain Pilgrimage Centre, located in Hassan District, Karnataka.

Bahubali or Gommateshwara is the second son of Adinatha, the first teerthankara and a revered figure among the Jains. The celebrations include anointing of the 1035-year-old Gommateshwara statue — the largest monolithic statue in the world, standing atop the Vindhyagiri mountain. The celebrations take place over a month. This is the 89th anointing (Mahamastakabhishekam) of Bahubali.  

 

During the meeting Deve Gowda urged PM Modi to grant ₹ 500 crores for the festival. Besides, he also suggested Modi to grant support price of ₹ 15,000/- per quintal for coconut growers.

 

After the meeting he spoke to the media and said the PM accepted the invitation for Mahamastakabhishekam and also responded positively for his appeal on behalf of the coconut growers.
