Surgical strikes: Kerala man arrested for abusing Indian Army on Facebook

Synopsis

Shahul Hameed was arrested by the Thiruvananthapuram police. A case has been registered under Section 66 of Information Technology Act.

A Thiruvananthapuram native was arrested by Vizhinjam police on Saturday for a social media post against Indian army's 'Surgical Strike'.


Shahul Hameed allegedly posted a comment abusing the military action and wrote he was ashamed of being born an Indian. But very soon police found that Hameed had filed a complaint alleging that his Facebook post on ‘men empowerment’ was edited into an anti-national post.


The police were successful in tracing the youth after they tracked a vehicle registration number clearly visible on the Facebook post. A case has been registered under Section 66 of Information Technology Act.  


A similar incident was reported by the Cyber Police in Kozhikode where controversial posts appeared on the Facebook wall of a youth praising the Pakistan Army. However, the youth filed a petition alleging that his Facebook account had been hacked and the messages were posted without his knowledge.
