RG Office - Rs 6 cr: Was Rahul Gandhi paid by Karnataka Congress?

Synopsis

A diary has been leaked to the media which lists thousands of crores in payments The diary is alleged to belong to Congress MLC Govindaraju  The diary lists payments to 'RG Office' and 'SG Office.'

A diary, allegedly belonging to Congress Member of Legislative Council (MLC) K Govindaraju, was leaked to media on Thursday night, kicking off what could be a political explosion in Karnataka.

If real, the diary seems to indicate the payment of huge sums of money to various people, identified only via their initials. And in relation to the Congress party, some of the initials can prove to be particularly damaging. One of the entries in the diary, for example, lists payments of Rs 6 crore to 'RG Office' and Rs 8 crore to 'SG Office'. There are also payments to 'M. Vora' and 'K.J.G' and 'M.B.P'

The implications of the diary, which hasn't been authenticated yet, could prove especially damaging as Govindaraju is also the parliamentary secretary of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Among other entries, some claim the payment of hundreds of crores to high command and also a mysterious Rs 65 crore payment taken in connection with the controversial steel flyover project in Bengaluru.

According to reports in the media, the diary was seized by IT sleuths when they conducted a raid on Govindaraju's house on March 16, 2016. Govindaraju was among three MLCs whose residences were raided. Several documents were seized during the searches conducted over alleged amassing of assets disproportionate to their known sources of income, IT Department sources told PTI.

For his part, Govindaraju has denied all involvement. Speaking to the Deccan Chronicle, Govindaraju called the diary mysterious and stated that the handwriting in the diary was not his.

In what could be a trump card for the BJP, similar, if not the same, allegations were made by BJP Karnataka president Yeddyurappa a month ago.
