Chennai kids now being tempted with ganja-laced chocolates

Synopsis

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has now ordered for an investigation after reports claimed that a 13-year-old, who consumed a ganja-laced chocolate, had to be admitted to the hospital in critical condition.

 

"A few days ago, a schoolboy had to be admitted to a hospital after consuming drug chocolates which he purchased from a shop in RK Nagar in Chennai. The commission has issued notices to the district collector, Chennai to inform the commission about the steps being taken to deal with the situation," said a NHRC statement on Thursday. 

According to Times of India, the NHRC has asked the Chennai district collector to submit a report on the issue within four weeks.


Recently, the Chennai police had recovered large quantities of ganja-laced chocolates from a godown in the city.  

 

The condition of the class ninth student is said to be stable, but he was still on the ventilator. The Chennai police and Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Control authorities since then have launched an investigation into the suspected sale of ganja-laced chocolates to school kids.

 

The police have arrested, Suresh Mahola, a native of Bihar, who told them that he had sourced the chocolates from a wholesale vendor in Kolkata. 


Bhang is an edible preparation of cannabis popularly used in food and drink, mostly in North India, especially during Holi.
