Charge sheet filed against ex-Lokayukta Justice Bhaskar Rao
Synopsis
The SIT on Wednesday submitted a 560-page charge sheet against the retired justice in the Mayo Hall Court.
The Governor of Karnataka Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala on July 20 had permitted the SIT to investigate and submit the findings on accusations against Rao.
Following this order, a team under SIT chief Kamal Panth was formed. The team also interrogated Rao.
Now, the SIT claims it has evidence that Rao was well aware of bribes taken and misappropriation of funds by Rao’s son Ashwin Rao and his associates.
Justice Rao has been named as the seventh accused in the case, in which ₹1 crore was allegedly demanded from PWD Executive Engineer Krishnamurthy.
Rao has been accused of shielding his son Ashwin from the law. The charge sheet also states that he had helped his son by providing certain documents to save his son from legal tangles.
