Bomb prank triggers search at Bengaluru metro station

Synopsis

Miscreants placed cracker powder inside a tiffin box and connected a wire to it. Bomb disposal experts swept the area outside the Lalbagh West Gate Metro Station for explosives. Police are questioning metro staff.

There were anxious moments for the Bengaluru Police early on January 24 when they received information that a bomb had been planted outside the Lalbagh West Gate metro station. Some miscreants had reportedly placed cracker powder in a metal tiffin box, which was rolled in a towel. The miscreants attached a wire to the box to give it the appearance of a bomb.

The Police Control Room received an anonymous call around 1.30AM on January 24 that a bomb was planted near the Lalbagh West Gate station. The police immediately dispatched the dog squad and bomb disposal teams. The police discovered the box that was containing cracker powder. However, the bomb disposal squad continued to sweep the vicinity of the metro station to rule out the presence of explosives.

A few hours later, senior police officers also arrived at the spot to investigate the incident. Police questioned people working at the metro station and are trying to trace the caller.

A similar incident happened last July when a suspicious object was found near Sadashivanagar Cauvery Junction. However, the police confirmed that the object was not a bomb.
