The Bengaluru Metro City Transport Corporation (BMTC) will be soon introducing a commuter-friendly smart card facility for a better travel experience which will be implemented in three months.
Electronic ticketing machines (ETM) will be installed inside each bus which will issue tickets after swiping the card. This method aims to reduce the hassles of handling money and will be also useful to maintain transparency.
The card details will be transferred to the Intelligent Transport System (ITS) centre, which was launched in May 2016, immediately after issuing the card. These smart cards can be recharged just like a pre-paid mobile phone. The recharge counters will be installed at some bus stations.
If the smart card system is successful, the transport corporation will be linking debit and credit cards to it. Also the 'Namma Metro' cards to the new smart cards.
