Major Akshay Girish Kumar was killed yesterday during the Nagrota terrorist attack Akshay was a resident of Yelahanka in Bengaluru He is survived by his wife and two-year-old daughter

 

31-year-old Akshay was a Yelahanka, Gate Garden resident in Bengaluru. He had married his childhood friend Sangeetha, five years ago and the two have a two-year-old daughter named Naina.

 

He is also survived by his parents Girish Kumar and Meghana and twin sisters. The grief-stricken family has rushed to Kashmir.

 

Akshay had discontinued his education in 2003 (was pursuing his pre-university in Jain College) and joined the army. He was initially posted in Chandigarh and later was posted in Kashmir.

 

Akshay’s father Girish had served as a pilot in Jet Airways.

 

What happened on the war front?

On Tuesday, army men saved several hostages from the clutches of terrorists and escorted them to a safe place. Meanwhile, the terrorists pretended to surrender and laid down their weapons.

 

Just as the army had evacuated the civilians, the terrorists took up their arms and shot the army men. In the firing, seven terrorists were killed. But five army personnel also laid down their lives.
