Aero Show 2017: Backpacker terrorists, drone attacks worry Bengaluru cops

Synopsis

The Southern Air Command had alerted all the police stations back in August 2016. The security agencies also have been on alert ever since then to track any movement of any team or lone backpacker terrorist belonging to terror groups, who are capable of launching flying objects or explosives.

The 11th edition of the International Aerospace and Defence Exhibition - Aero India 2017 is all set to kick-start from February 14 at the Yelahanka Air Force Base in Bengaluru. Among all the anticipation and excitement Bengaluru Police have a serious issue to worry about. Backpacker terrorists and drone attacks may haunt the aviation extravaganza.

The Southern Air Command had alerted all the police stations back in August 2016 regarding the same. The security agencies also have been on alert ever since then to track any movement of any team or lone backpacker terrorist belonging to terror groups, who are capable of launching flying objects or explosives.

"It had even gone to the Mysuru commissioner. Flying objects that can be launched by individuals is a growing threat and the alert only reiterated the fact. We are being cautious and all precautions are being taken," a senior intelligence officer from Karnataka was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

The Southern Air Command had delivered some special instructions through the letter that they had sent to the Bengaluru Cops and other security services. This was sent to them after the Pathankot attack in January 2016.

However, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Praveen Sood refused to comment on the letter that was sent by the Southern Air Command.

"I cannot comment about the August letter as I've taken charge only in January. The threat perception, however, was discussed in our joint meetings with the IAF ahead of Aero India," Sood said.
