Bengaluru: The Benniganahalli denotification case involving former Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa and senior Congress leader DK Shivakumar will now be heard by another Supreme Court bench. This was after Justice S Abdul Nazeer recused himself from hearing the case on Friday (July 5).
The judge was heading a bench comprising Justice R Subhash Reddy.
The nine-year-old case pertains to denotification of around four and a half acres in Benniganahalli, east Bengaluru, on May 13, 2010, allegedly benefitting Shivakumar. Yeddyurappa was the chief minister then.
In 1986, the land was acquired for NGEF Layout in Bengaluru. Shivakumar had purchased it in 2003.
Social activists TJ Abraham and Kabbalegowda then filed separate complaints before the Lokayukta court, alleging corruption. The same was challenged in the Karnataka high court . The court quashed proceedings against Yeddyurappa, Shivakumar and Hamid Ali, who was working as a sub-registrar in south Bengaluru.
The activists then moved the Supreme Court, challenging the directive given by the high court.
