Dubai court fines Thrissur man 2.5 lakh dirhams for defaming Malabar Gold

Bineesh Punnakkal Arumughan, who was working in Sharjah, has been found guilty of spreading false information against the Malabar Gold group on Facebook.
Bineesh shared photos, claiming they depicted Pakistan's Independence Day celebrations at one of the Emirates branches of the jewellery group. Malabar Gold’s logo was imprinted on the photos.
After getting to know about the posts, Malabar Gold filed a complaint with the Dubai police and the accused was booked.
Malabar Gold withdrew the complaint after Bineesh apologised to them but the prosecution went ahead with the case.
On charges of misuse of information technology, the Dubai First Instance Court imposed a fine of 2.5 lakh dirhams and ordered to deport him.
The court also ordered him delete the photos containing false information and also to shut down his Facebook page for a year.
