A 45-year-old woman and her teenage daughter were run over by an express train on Monday when they tried to cross the track near Vadakara in Kozhikode.
The woman and the 19-year-old daughter tried to cross the track near the Mukkali station without noticing the approaching Tirunelveli-Jamnagar Hapa Express and were hit by the train, according to the Railway Protection Force.
Meanwhile, it is understood that the two tried to cross the track as the underpass was filled with water. Locals have accused the panchayat and railway authorities of laxity in clearing the underpass.
A case of unnatural deaths has been registered by the Mahe police. Southern Railway officials said there was no disruption in rail traffic due to the accident.
