Synopsis

WCC condemned Innocent's statement that sexual assault does not prevail in cinema industry Power politics exists in film industry like any other sector Newcomers seeking a chance in cinema industry often face exploitation

Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) the association of female actors and technicians in Malayalam cinema has come out against actor Innocent, who is also the president of Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).

The WCC, in a Facebook post, said that they welcome Innocent's stance towards the Collective as the actor welcomed them to be a part of AMMA. Meanwhile, the WCC also said that they cannot agree with Innocent's statement that sexual assault does not prevail in the industry.

"Cinema, like any other industry, reflects existing social factors and is facing all those issues that engulf our society. Power politics is there in the film industry like any other sector. It is just because of such factors that newcomers seeking a chance are being exploited. It was only recently that actors Parvathy and Lakshmi Rai spoke out on such practices in the open. We believe that Justice Hema Commission will conduct a detailed probe into such issues. We request all persons working in cinema industry to be careful while making statements on such issues," the post read.
