In a fresh twist to the sensational Sister Abhaya case, former Crime Branch SP KT Michael, who was part of the original investigation team, has been named an accused for destroying evidence.
The CBI court in Thiruvananthapuram issued an order to add Michael to the list of accused while hearing a petition filed by social worker Jomon Puthenpurackal. According to the FIR, Michael has been accused of destroying evidence and conspiring to rescue the real killers.
Michael had investigated Abhaya’s death and gave a report saying she committed suicide. Abhaya’s dress and diary, which were surrendered in Kottayam RDO court as exhibits, were allegedly destroyed before CBI inquiry began in the case.
Michael's name has been included along with the other accused - Fr Thomas M Kottur, Fr Dr Jose Puthrukkayil and Sr Stephy. Abhaya was found dead at the St Pius Convent in Kottayam on 27 March 1992.
