Will take strict action: Speaker slams George for comments against actress

In a Facebook post, the speaker P Sreeramakrishnan expressed his solidarity with the attacked actress Sreeramakrishnan stressed that the comments were shocking and inhuman coming from a legislator "If persons holding high posts make such comments and defend these crimes, it would only encourage criminals"

Kerala Assembly speaker P Sreeramakrishnan has criticised Poonjar MLA PC George for making derogatory comments about the actress, who was abducted and assaulted in a car in Kochi.

In a Facebook post, the speaker expressed his solidarity with the actress. Referring to George's infamous comment that how could the actress return to work the next day if she was attacked, Sreeramakrishnan stressed that it was shocking and inhuman coming from a legislator.

"If persons holding high posts make such comments and defend these crimes, it would only encourage criminals. I will do everything in my capacity as the Assembly speaker to take strict action against people who made such remarks," Sreeramakrishnan said in his post. 

Meanwhile, a complaint filed by the Women in Cinema Collective against George for his comments against the actress is with the Speaker. It could be forwarded to the ethics committee of the Assembly.

Both the state women's commission and the Women in Cinema Collective had come out demanding action against George for his statements defaming the actress. The actress also wrote a touching letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan earlier this week, requesting his intervention in the matter.
